Recreation/Racing |
Oceanic has established a niche at the very high end of the performance
evaluation market for recreation/racing vessels. America's Cup racing yachts
and luxury power yachts have been model tested. Oceanic's services help optimize
designs of recreational/racing vessels, primarily for maximum upwind performance.
This is achieved by providing reliable data for the forces generated by the
hull and keel over a range of realistic sailing conditions. Physical test programs
are conducted in the 200 Meter Towing Tank to
measure the forces on the hull itself. The Yacht
Dynamometer is used to provide precise data, and is considered to be the
best in the world in terms of reliability, resolution and repeatability. Models
are restrained in yaw and in roll and tested over a suitable speed range while
systematically varying heel and leeway angle. This service can be used to resolve
minor changes in performance as dictated by hull shape or appendage configuration,
or to establish baseline performance of a one-off design in calm water or in
head-seas.
