As an alliance of the National Research Council (NRC) and Memorial
University of Newfoundland (MUN), Oceanic
is the commercial front door to one of the world's most comprehensive
collections of facilities for model testing. With all facilities
located in St. John's, at the NRC's
Institute for Ocean Technology (IOT) and
MUN's Ocean Engineering Research Centre (OERC) and Marine
Institute (MI), Oceanic can cost-effectively simulate
nearly any extreme marine environment and provide an evaluation
of any marine system.
Models are tested in one or more of the following facilities:
Several unique pieces of equipment augment the capabilities
of some of the facilities, including:
As well, Oceanic has capability in all aspects of model construction
and instrumentation, with access to on-site shops for electronics,
machining, welding, carpentry, fibre-glassing and painting. A
milling machine is used in shaping models up to 12 meters in length.
