Established in 1993 as Marineering Limited, the firm has become a worldwide leader in commercial marine research and development and in Arctic engineering. Its success is due to its experienced researchers, engineers, and technical personnel, combined with its access to one of the world's most comprehensive collections of hydrodynamic research facilities. In 1998, to mark greater integration locally and to allow for better brand differentiation internationally, the firm began operating as Oceanic Consulting Corporation.
Internationally recognized for its expertise in the areas of vortex induced vibration (VIV) research, and Arctic and ice engineering, as well as for its work with several America's Cup syndicate teams, including two-time champion Team Alinghi, Oceanic has also carried out research on a wide range of projects, including tankers; liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, semi-submersible drilling units and production spars; floating production storage and offloading vessels; articulated tugs and barges (ATBs); and several super yachts.
Oceanic is a commercial portal to marine research facilities in Newfoundland and Labrador, which include the National Research Council of Canada’s Institute for Ocean Technology, and Memorial University’s Ocean Engineering Research Centre and Marine Institute. Through its working agreements with these and other international affiliates, Oceanic delivers a broad and sophisticated range of engineering and consulting services in ocean and Arctic Engineering research.
The suite of facilities that Oceanic offers its clients includes 200-meter and 58-meter Towing Tanks, offshore engineering and maneuvering basins, a 90-meter Ice Tank, a Cavitation Tunnel, a Flume Tank, motion simulators, and a range of computational tools.
