NRC-OCRE Offshore Engineering Basin
To scientifically study FPSOs which face shallow-water, short-crested waves on Canada’s
east coast, Oceanic has investigated greenwater impacts; combined wind, current, and wave
loads; and the effectiveness of disconnectable moorings. In experimenting on the development
of safer transportation systems, Oceanic has also used the basin to research the performance
of ships offloading at offshore natural gas terminals, the impact of liquefied natural gas
(LNG) sloshing in tanks in a seaway, and the impact of wave loads on LNG caissons.
- Wave loads on gravity base structures
- Floating offshore structure mooring tests
- Multiple structure dynamics research
- Seakeeping studies
- Free running ship maneuvering tests
- Escape and evacuation research
- Hydrodynamic studies of deep-water semi-submersible production platforms and drilling rigs
- Wave impacts on jacket structures
- Evaluations of current loads on moored structures
- Wave loading on structures
